The other day, I gave my neighbor a few mugs.
I just moved here and an opportunity arose to be neighborly. By way of introduction, I thought I’d give my neighbors a little something from my studio. In the spur of the moment, I grabbed some mugs off the shelf and trotted across the yard to their house. As these were freebies, however, I didn’t give them my best. I grabbed a decent mug and a dud, a plain-jane with some bare spots. Now, these folks don’t know me or my work from Adam. So, um… shame on me!
This was a week ago. Nearly everyday since, I have seen their house through my studio window and I’ve kicked myself for giving them a second-rate mug. What kind of first impression was that? I produce better work and it’s my fault my new neighbors don’t know it. Moral of the story? It’s never a good idea to mail it in. Ever. ∆
