I made this collage years ago in college.
It’s a US flag, cut up and mounted on a linen-covered board. At the time, I was thinking about the Iraq War. The linen reminded me of the US Army, dressed for combat in the desert. It was a far cry from the GI Joe I grew up with, dressed for combat in jungle green camo, vestiges of Vietnam.
By pure chance, I photographed this thing yesterday, on the 14th anniversary of 9/11. I didn’t plan it that way. It just happened.

It seemed appropriate to share. ∆
