This week’s film post is about clay modeling in the automotive industry.
I’ve long been fascinated by the idea that car makers create full-scale models of new designs in clay before production begins. Where did that come from? I get it, but it always seemed like such an odd marriage of materials and technologies, this business of using clay to help design something made of metal.
These promotional videos from Ford offer some insight. Bonus: the guy in the last one is wearing a tie! I love anyone working with clay, wearing a tie. Running times: 2:35 and 2:19, respectively. Enjoy. ∆
